I GORZYCE WIELKIE CHESS FESTIVAL

On Friday we launched the I Gorzyce Wielkie Chess Festival with a chess trivia competition.

The competition had 12 participants, mostly members of sports club Gorzycki Klub Sportowy (GKS), but also visitors from Kórnik or Poznań. Questions pertained not only to recent events in the world of chess, but also events related to the history of chess. Below you can find some questions our contestants were required to answer.

c) Florencio Campomanes

 

 

The winner of the contest was Robert Adamek from Poznań, followed by Wojciech Biela (GKS Gorzyce Wielkie) and Marcin Orzechowski (M-G UKS Pogoń Nowe Skalmierzyce). 
Very good scores were also obtained by Jerzy Kątny (GKS Gorzyce Wielkie) and Patrycja Kowalewska (OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolski).

 

The following competition was solving chess problems. Each contestant was given 8 problems of varying difficulty. Here, Robert Adamek (Poznań) proved best as well.
A merely one-point lower score was obtained by Robert Kątny (MUKS Wieża Kórnicka Kórnik), Piotr Zimny (OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolski), Wojciech Biela (GKS Gorzyce Wielkie) and Marcin Orzechowski (M-G UKS Pogoń Nowe Skalmierzyce). The contestants received special event ball pens and mugs. The correct conduct of the competition was supervised by Krystian Ofierzyński.

The subsequent stage of the Festival was the blitz chess tournament, which had 22 players from, among others, Kalisz, Łódź, and Kórnik. The winner was Piotr Zimny with a score of 9.5/11. The second place was taken by Jakub Rosik and the third by Adam Pera (all three from OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolski).

The best score among women was obtained by Patrycja Kowalewska (also from OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolskiy). Top contestants were awarded with cash prizes and cups.

On the following day (Saturday) the Young Talent tournament was held, targeted at students of middle schools, elementary schools, and pre-schoolers.  

Nikodem Pabiszczak proved the best contestant in this regard, followed by Szymona Klaska and Patrycja Kowalewska.

The best player among pre-schoolers was Tymoteusz Kątny.

 

All children who took part in the tournament received valuable material prizes and commemorative medals from the Headmistress of the School Complex in Gorzyce Wielkie Mrs. Lucyna Piaskowska. The tournament was supervised by arbiter Marcin Orzechowski

On Sunday morning the main tournament of the I Gorzyce Wielkie Chess Festival in Gorzyce Wielkie was held. The tournament was attended by contestants from, among others, Konin, Łódź, Poznań, Lubliniec, Kórnik, Brzeg, Leszno, Nowe Skalmierzyce, Stęszewo, Kalisz, and even a contestant from Belarus. However, the most numerous were obviously the GKS representatives.
