IV GORZYCE WIELKIE CHESS FESTIVAL

On Saturday 24th we launched the IV Gorzyce Wielkie Chess Festival with a Young Talent Tournament. The tournament will be divided into 4 age groups.


Pre-schoolers tournament was won by Julian Kuryłłowicz-Kaźmierczak from Poznań with a score of 7/7 !  The second place was taken by  Wiktor Włodarczyk (KTS Kalisz) and the third by Kasjan Skoczylas (Smecz Konin). The youngest participant was Aleks Grubski (Szkoła Szachowa Szachmistrz).

In the tournament up to the age of 10 (40 participants) Mateusz Różański (UMKS Na Pięterku Poznań) wins all games!. Mateusz is still pre-schooler (Polish champion!) but he decided to play in an older group! Mateusz followed by Tymoteusz Kątny (MUKS Wieża Kórnicka Kórnik) and Tymoteusz Bakaj (LKS Chrobry Gniezno).

In the group under 13 years old, the last year's Polish champion Jan Klimkowski (UKS Smecz Konin) turned out to be the best . Second place for Mikołaj Stachecki (NASZACH Nowy Tomyśl).  Third place for Ewa Barwińska (KTS Kalisz).

In tournament up to 16 years won Kacper Goliński (KSz Orły Pleszew) who overtook Nikodem Pabiszczak (OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolski) and Gabriela Pieczewska (OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolski).

The top players in all the groups were presented with material prizes, while the winners received cups. All children who took part in the tournament received  commemorative medals from the Director of Gorzyce Wielkie Communal Public Library - Dariusz Pryczak

The following stage of the contest was solving chess problems  to contestants without an official ELO ranks over 1999. 14 participants received a set of 8 problems with the objective to indicate the best possible move for the white. The total time for solving all chess problems was 20 minutes. 7 correct answers were presented to Bartosz Matuszczak and Arkadiusz Wronka.

The extra-time was won  Bartosz Matuszczak and won the contest. Awards for Szymon Pieczewski. Big applause to the two youngest participants in the competitions Igor Majcher and Julian Kuryłłowicz-Kaźmierczak for the correct solution of up to 5 tasks!

The next stage was the Chess Trivia Contest. The contestants were given a series of 8 theoretical questions and 6 photographs of world’s leading chess players to identify.
Four of the contestants gained 9 points - Dariusz Banasiak, Kinga Dudzińska, Jakub Strykowski and Szymon Pieczewski.
The extra-time was won in a blink of an eye with correct answers by Jakub Strykowski.

The subsequent stage of the Festival was the blitz chess tournament, which had 54 players, played 11 rounds with a 5-minute time control per each contestant.
The tournament was won by FM Marek Zakrzewski (ASSz Lipno Stęszew) followed by FM Marcin Steczek (TS-R Hetman Konin) and Karol Michalski (KSz LECH-WSUS Poznań). The best score among women was obtained by k Arleta Dębowiak. The tournament was supervised by arbiter FA Magdalena Judek.

On Sunday, the time came to hold the main tournament - rating for rapid ELO FIDE. The turnout was high with 84 contestants, including many leading chess players from outside Greater Poland.

This time, the rivals proved equal with at least several contestants competing for the main prize until the last round. In the end, the tournament was won by FM Mikołaj Tomczak (MMKS Wieniawa Leszno), The second place was taken by FM Marek Zakrzewski (ASSz Lipno Stęszew), the third by FM Dawid Niekraś (ASSz Lipno Stęszew), the fourth by k FM Kamil Szadkowski (UKS Smecz Konin) whereas the fifth by FM Marcin Steczek (TS-R Hetman Konin).

The tournament ended with a lottery of 3 double invitations for kayaking on the Prosna and book.
