V GORZYCE WIELKIE CHESS FESTIVAL

On Saturday 26th we launched the V Gorzyce Wielkie Chess Festival with a Young Talent Tournament. The tournament will be divided into 4 age groups.


Pre-schoolers tournament was won by Mateusz Soroczyński from Poznań with a score of 7/7 !  The second place was taken by Aleks Grubski (KTS Kalisz) and the third by Michalina Popczyńska (MUKS Śródmieście). 12 preschoolers took part in the tournament!

In the tournament up to the age of 10 two competitors obtained an identical point score as well as additional score - Gabriela Zawadzka (KTS Kalisz) and Igor Majcher (OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolski).Third place by Jakub Pabiszczak (MUKS MDK Śródmieście Wrocław).

In the group under 13 years old  8-years-old boy became a winner! Mateusz Różański (Wielkopolski Klub Szachowy) obtained 6/7points. Second place for Zuzanna Jędrzejewska (KTS Kalisz) .Third place for Kamil Grzesiek. Mateusz is a two-time winner of the Polish Cup (to 6 and 7 years) and is a great hope for Polish chess.

In tournament up to 16 years won Mateusz Wleklik (MMKS "Wieniawa" Leszno) who overtook Karolina Janiszewska (UKS ZSO Włoszakowice) and Krzysztof Szymczak (OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolski).

After today's results, it seems that Mateusz's name foretells a great chess career :)

The top players in all the groups were presented with material prizes, while the winners received cups. All children who took part in the tournament received  commemorative medals from thetThe Headmistress of the School Complex in Gorzyce Wielkie - Lucyna Piaskowska.

The tournament was supervised by arbiter IA Magdalena Judek and deputy Szymon Pieczewski and Jonasz Walkowski.

Two children from Gorzyce Wielkie took part in the age group to 10 years - Stanisław Pawlak and Przemysław Stempin. In the group up 10 years took part Kacper Podruczny from Gorzyce Wielkie . Big applause!

We are also very happy about the numerous presence of children from the Municipal and Communal Culture Center in Raszków.

The following stage of the contest was solving chess problems  to contestants without an official ELO ranks over 1999. 16 participants received a set of 8 problems with the objective to indicate the best possible move for the white. The total time for solving all chess problems was 20 minutes. 7 correct answers was presented to Karol Grzesiek and won the contest.

Chess solving competition

 

The next stage was the Chess Trivia Contest. The contestants were given a series of 8 theoretical questions and 6 photographs of world’s leading chess players to identify.

Wojciech Biela gained 12 points and won the contest.
Three of the contestants gained 11 points - Jerzy Kot, Karol Grzesiek and Mateusz Różański.

The subsequent stage of the Festival was the blitz chess tournament, which had 44 players, played 11 rounds with a 3'+2" time control per each contestant.
The tournament was won again by FM Marek Zakrzewski (ASSz Lipno Stęszew) followed by FM Karol Jaroch (SSz Gminy Pawłowice) and Kacper Goliński (OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolski). The best score among women was obtained by Woman Fide Master from Argentina WFM Aylen Strgacich.

Ewa Barwińska and Kacper Goliński were excellent in the tournament and beat opponents noted above and scored very high points in the Elo ranking. Kacper +88, Ewa +72. The best representative of Gorzycki Klub Sportowy was Wojciech Biela. The tournament was submitted to FIDE.

The head arbiter was IA Magdalena Judek and deputy Łukasz Dębowiak.

On Sunday, the time came to hold the main tournament. Despite the unfavorable weather, the attendance was good - 85 participants took part in the competition, including many leading chess players from outside Greater Poland. We played 9 rounds with a 10'+5" time control per each contestant. The tournament was submitted to FIDE.

This time, the rivals proved equal with at least several contestants competing for the main prize until the last round. In the end, the tournament was won by IM Krzysztof Chojnacki (LKS "Chrobry" Gniezno), The second place was taken by FM Marek Zakrzewski (ASSz Lipno Stęszew), the third by FM Piotr Dudziński (OTSz Ostrów Wielkopolski), the fourth by m Karol Jaroch (SSz Gminy Pawłowice)  whereas the fifth by Mikołaj Nowak (UKS "Smecz" Konin).

Cups and cash prizes were also awarded in other classifications.

 

Women classification:
I -WFM Aylen Strgacich (Argentina),  II - k Arleta Dębowiak (ASSz "Lipno" Stęszew),  III - Patrycja Golińska (Otsz Ostrów Wielkopolski).

17 women took part in the tournament. For the first time the competitor from abroad won. We are happy that even in distant Argentina people are interested in our Festival :)
It is worth noting that Arleta Dębowiak was on the podium for the third time in the history of our Festival and 13-year-old Patrycja Golińska showed a very good result and had place on the podium as well.

Players 50 and over classification:
I - Eugeniusz Murawski (UKS Skoczek Milicz), II - FM Jerzy Kot (Husaria), III - Andrzej Czyż (Hetman Wschowa).
The best score among women was obtained by Wiesława Walkowska (UKS ZSO Włoszakowice).

It is the third year that Mr. Jerzy Kot is on our podium!

After a two-year break, Mr. Kazimierz Winiarski is back with us.  Ranking profit, a very high place in the general classification and the third podium in the history of our Festival!
